No hot water? Here’s what to check first

Few things are more frustrating than turning on the tap and finding there’s no hot water—especially when you need it most. While some issues can be simple to identify, many require a qualified engineer to fix safely. No hot water in Waterlooville or Havant?

1. Check if Your Boiler Is Working

Start by looking at your boiler:
  • Is it switched on?
  • Is there an error code showing?
  • Does it sound like it’s running?
If your boiler is completely off or displaying a fault code, this usually means there’s a deeper issue that needs professional attention. Call ClicknPlumb now or choose a repair option to book a time slot with our engineers at your earliest convenience.

2. Check Your Boiler Pressure

Low boiler pressure is one of the most common reasons for no hot water.
  • Your pressure gauge should usually sit between 1 and 2 bar
  • If it’s too low, your boiler may stop working properly
Some systems allow you to re-pressurise the boiler yourself, but if you’re unsure—or the pressure keeps dropping—it could indicate a leak or internal fault. Unsure what to do or how to fix it? Call ClicknPlumb now.

3. Check Your Gas Supply

If you have a gas boiler, make sure:
  • Your gas supply is working
  • Other gas appliances (like your hob) are functioning
No gas means no hot water. If your gas supply isn’t working properly, it could be a safety concern and should be checked as soon as possible by a qualified engineer. It’s essential that any work on a boiler is carried out by a Gas Safe Register registered professional. All ClicknPlumb engineers are fully accredited, so you can be confident your system is in safe hands.

4. Is It Just One Tap or the Whole House?

Try different taps around your home:
  • If only one tap has no hot water → it could be a local issue (like a faulty tap or valve)
  • If the whole house is affected → it’s likely a boiler or system problem
If you can’t find the fault or none of the above helps, call ClicknPlumb and have one of our experienced engineers diagnose the problem for you. Visit our repair page to choose a booking type and time slot. If you’re not sure how to use the diary, read our helpful how-to guide.
